The next suggestion I found online was to run a full hard drive test in DOS, and nothing came up there either. Turns out the fan was actually pretty dusty, (first time cleaning it) but this did not solve anything. My first thought was the fan is clogged up with dust and choking to death, so I dissected the computer and cleaned the fan with compressed air. This will all last for about 10 seconds or so and then everything is perfectly normal again.
